"It was valuable to work with MTO-LAB"
Statoil, the department IT BKS SAP basis held a 4-hour seminar about usability and how to apply it in everyday practice. The seminar was being structured partly as a lecture and partly as a workshop.
The goal was to gain understanding of the term usability or "use-quality", and to uncover the benefits of taking the terms into practical use. We disclosed obstacles along the way, and were surprised to find that our own attitudes and lack of knowledge were key issues.
The seminar with MTO-LAB was successful, and we received good feedback from the particiants. It was valuable to work with MTO-LAB.
MTO-LAB teaches the module "Man and Machine" at the University of Stavanger.
Aim: To enable the students to contemplate human factors carefully when developing software.
Content: How do we make good user interfaces? What is usability? Human software. How does user interfaces influence users? Methods for evaluating designs. Why indeed care about the users? What are the obstacles of widespread adoption of software? What are the important user aspects of websites? How do we design for accessability? Practical evaluation of IT tools and websites. Expert-based testing and user-based testing: possibillities and limits.
